Carriage Week, Day 5, King's Chambers
Spackle had been expecting this. King Holfrid remained sequestered in his quarters all week while Spackle spent the week rushing around amid the chaos and activity, but, as always, their paths were destined to meet.

(It had nothing to do with destiny, actually. When the King was ready to see him, the King summoned him.)

So here he was, having been summoned... a little nervous, but a Fool with a case of nerves was exactly like a Fool without... standing outside the big gilded oaken doors that had hardly opened all week.

Spackle approached the two guards and stood at attention before them. "Permission to enter, sirs!" he barked.

Ferd chuckled, and Melwin raised an eyebrow at him. "Have you been summoned?"

"Sir, yes, sir!" Spackle nodded vigorously.

Melwin frowned, expressing some doubt. "Just a sec," he muttered, and slipped through the oaken doors. Spackle grinned at Ferd, still standing ramrod straight, while he waited. Ferd smirked back briefly.

The doors creaked open again and Melwin returned. "You may enter," he told Spackle gruffly. And then, with a sly, crooked grin, he added, "Robert."

"Yes, sir, Melwin, sir!" Spackle saluted him, and then saluted Ferd, and then did a smart 360 on his heel (which was a lot harder than it looked in his bejangled slippers with soles of cloth), and then marched right in as the men held the door open for him.

Inside, he abandoned his act in favor of a submissive, reverent demeanor.
